Since the Aussie Titles

The Australian Titles was a great time for me with some fantastic results.  I was feeling really fit and to win the surf race for the eighth time was a great honour.

Since Aussies, I took a much needed break around the Whitsundays and Hamilton Island for a few weeks.  It really is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

I have just returned from 10 days in California where I was training with the American swim squad in my preparation for the World Titles in Shanghai (July 2011).  I will be competing in the 10km Open water swim and my training will be predominantly based around this in the lead up to the event, although with the great waves on the Gold Coast lately I haven’t been able to resist a few sessions out there on the board.

Last week I travelled down to Bonville golf course for a sports luncheon, a few rounds of golf and was talked into racing Kurt Fearnley the fastest man in the world in a wheelchair and a well respected athlete. The race was around the 18th hole and a 1.2km loop. I had to complete 4 laps and Kurt 5 laps. This was by far the hardest thing I had done for sometime. After Kurt was clocked at just over 40km/h, we both came across the line together – a very exciting race for all that were watching and I was happy the race wasn’t an inch further.
