For the past 7 weeks I have been in the US training out of Fullerton and Santa Barbara, CA. It’s been great to get away from the cold and distractions of the Gold Coast like the great surf and beaches.
Good surf seems to be my achilles heel during a preparation for swimming, and although I have heard the weather has been fantastic on the Gold Coast being over here lets me focus on my swimming and the London Olympics.
Since I’ve been here I’ve done nothing but swim. It’s been well over 4yrs since I have seen back to back sessions where I’m seeing some really good results in training. I was really worried my shoulders wouldn’t handle the work load but they seem to be getting stronger as the weeks pass.
I have to say at this stage it has to be one of my better starts to my preparation I have seen in my career. The guys and girls I have been training with out of the swim squad called FAST have been nothing but fantastic. Without them as training partners I don’t believe I would have seen improvement as quick as this from my swimming. Head coach of FAST John Urbanchek has to be one of the gurus of world swimming and I feel so privileged that he allowed me to be a part of his program.
I have another 10 days here and I’m really looking forward to getting home before I re-pack for London.
