Picture Perfect on the Gold Coast

It was a picture perfect day on Sunday for the first swim in the Body Science Great Australian Swim Series – the sun was shining, the ocean was like glass and the whales even popped in to see what was going on, with hundreds of swimmers young and old taking the plunge.

Congratulations to all our winners and everyone who took part in the Great Gold Coast Swim. We hope you enjoyed the morning as much as we did. The conditions were perfect and the times were fast. The Grimseybrothers came one, two, three in the 2.2km Elite Males with Codie edging out his brothers by the narrowest of margins. Pilar Ceijo came in first in the 2.2km Female Elite race ahead of Cara Baker from Varsity Lakes and Olympian Mel Gorman who had her first swim in six weeks following a well deserved break.

It was great to see Olympic Gold Medalist MelanieSchlanger and Ken Wallace taking time out to come along and swim with the Junior Kids.  All the results for the Junior Kids 300m Swim, Kellogg’s 750m Swim and the 2.2km Swim can be found online at our website, let us know if you have any questions.

Paul Cracknell from Sportspix was at Coolangattayesterday capturing all the great action and the perfect conditions.  You can view more of his photographs on and on our Facebook page. Paul was madly clicking away catching all our swimmers on the finish line, so be sure to take a look at your final moments of the swim.

A great BIG thank you must go out to all our volunteers who provide the manpower and womanpower and our supporters from the Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club who provided the water safety to help make the events such a great day out.  We hope you had the chance to say hello to our fabulous sponsors including the team from Body Science, Channel Nine and Hamilton Island who were set up in our event marketplace.  Thanks also to our partner Surf Life Saving Australia and congratulations to Ali Day andBrodie Moir winners of the 2012 Coolangatta Gold.

We look forward to doing it all again on Hamilton Island on 11 November and the Great Brisbane Swim atSuttons Beach, Redcliffe on Sunday 25 November.  Online registration is open until the day before each event.  Hope to see you there. Entries for the Great Sydney Swim on Australia Day will open at the end of this month.

See you on the beach!
